ABOUT PROVENANCE
Your finances have a story. Provenance makes sure you can read it.
Methodical books built on technical precision and clinical rigor.

Managing business finances requires root-cause problem solving and meticulous documentation. Provenance Bookkeeping was built around those exact operational demands.
Drawing from a background in technical systems and clinical care, the practice embeds systematic investigation and careful record-keeping into every ledger. We look for why anomalies occur and track where money moves.
The Meaning of Provenance
In fine art and historical research, provenance is the documented trail showing an item’s exact origin and every hand it passed through. That complete record gives an object its integrity. Business financial records need that same standard.
Purpose
Provenance exists so no owner has to guess where their business stands.
Mission
Our mission is to keep traceable books for business owners and explain them in plain English, so owners can know their numbers as well as they know their own work.
Core Values
These are the principles behind every set of books we keep.
If it can’t be traced, it isn’t finished.
Each entry is recorded so it can be followed back to its source later. When a receipt or record is missing, we flag it and tell you.
Find the cause.
When an account won’t reconcile, we look for the reason before we post any adjustment. If the records can’t explain it, we’ll show you what we checked and what’s still open. Forcing the numbers to balance only pushes the problem into next month.
Plain English, on time.
You’ll hear back within three business days. If a full answer needs more time or records from you, that first reply will list what’s needed and when to expect the rest, and we’ll tell you ahead of time if that changes. When a question belongs with your CPA, we’ll say so.
Your books belong to you.
They’re kept in your own QuickBooks Online company, with you as its primary admin. If we part ways, that QuickBooks company and its full history stay with you.
We report what the books show.
A slow month goes on the books as a slow month. If something in your books looks wrong to us, like a payment nobody can explain, you’ll hear about it.
Your records stay private.
We use your financial information only to keep your books. Apart from the software we work in, it’s shared only with people you approve, such as your CPA, or when the law requires it. When the work ends, we remove our access.
